Three Blue Jackets will play in the NHL All-Star Game

January 14, 2015

We couldn’t be more proud of three Columbus Blue Jackets, Nick Foligno and Ryan Johansen and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky  that have been selected to participate in the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game at Nationwide Arena on January 25!
A total of 36 All-Stars were selected by the NHL today, joining the first six players voted by fans in the 2015 NHL All-Star Fan Vote: Zemgus Girgensons of the Buffalo Sabres and Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Corey Crawford of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Foligno, 27, has registered 17 goals and 22 assists for 39 points with 20 penalty minutes in 38 games this season. He leads the club in goals and points and is among the NHL’s leaders in goals (12th-tied), points (16th-tied), power play goals (nine, second-tied) and power play points (20, second-tied). The Buffalo, New York native has collected 102-143-245 and 443 penalty minutes in 504 career games with the Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators, including 41-56-97 and 144 penalty minutes in 153 games with Columbus after being acquired from Ottawa on July 1, 2012.
Johansen, 22, leads the club in assists and sits second in goals and points, collecting 15-23-38 with 26 penalty minutes in 39 games. He sits among the NHL’s leaders in goals (21st-tied), assists (22nd-tied), points (18th-tied), power play assists (13, fourth-tied) and power play points (18, fourth-tied). The Vancouver, British Columbia native has registered 67-72-134 in 228 career games since being selected fourth overall at the 2010 NHL Draft. He is making his second-straight appearance at All-Star festivities as he was one of 12 rookies at the 2012 NHL All-Star Weekend, suiting up for Team Chara in the Skills Competition at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario.
Bobrovsky, 26, who has posted a 15-11-2 record with a 2.80 goals-against average, .915 save percentage and one shutout in 28 games this season, was named the NHL’s Third Star of the Month for December after going 9-1-1 with a 2.13 goals-against average, .937 save percentage and one shutout in 11 games. The Novokuznetsk, Russia native and 2013 Vezina trophy winner has gone 68-42-13 with a 2.36 goals-against average, .924 save percentage and 10 shutouts in 124 games with Columbus since the 2012-13 season. He is 110-65-23 with a 2.51 goals-against average, .918 save percentage and 10 shutouts in 207 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers.
Each player will be making his All-Star debut and 2015 marks the first time in franchise history the Blue Jackets will have more than one player in an All-Star Game. This year will be the second time that three Jackets will participate in the same All-Star Weekend as forward Ray Whitney skated in the 2003 NHL All-Star Game, while defenseman Rostislav Klesla and forward Rick Nash participated in the NHL YoungStars Game in Sunrise, Florida.
The Blue Jackets and the city of Columbus will host the 2015 NHL All-Star festivities, January 24-25, marking a first for the city and club. The League’s midseason showcase will include the Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition™ on Saturday, January 24 (7 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports) and the Honda NHL All-Star Game® on Sunday, January 25 (5 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).
